Meeting 3.0

We met on May 30, 2018 at Dallas Makerspace 6:30-7:00p conference room. We gained Will, Christy, and Russell to the strandbeest team. Chuck brought in a more complete version of the mock-up to demonstrate how the "triangles" would work just as effectively as full size sheets. Discussion of 3/4" wood was given way to the idea of weight and 1/2" birch plywood was agreed upon for the full size mockup to see strength and bearing weights. It was agreed upon that the birch would need strengthening end-caps. Will agreed to take this on and Clay was interested in sketching up the concept. We briefly discussed the idea of adding fiberglass to wood for reinforcement but went to the latter of just trying to do it out of wood first. We all agreed that the difficulty is going to come in with the construction of the crankshaft. Will brought up the comparison of a spring loaded prosthesis as a possible inspiration point for the "feet" of our bike. Clay brought up the need to consider rod end bearings - bringing in his from his plane - pros are the ease of motion and the ability for micro adjustments the negative is the cost. However, Will mentioned that we could find something similar within lawn mowing replacement parts that would allow for the range of motion while still considering the overall cost of the project. Joe showed off the posters he mocked up and talked about the t-shirt designs. Clay and Will gave Chuck $40 to buy a sheet of birch.

Goals for the next meeting were established: run a full sized mock-up leg on the Multicam for examination, have the mockup of the metal joinery available, get the gofundme started (or at least get a leg up on it), and have better snacks snacks.

In attendance: Chuck, Clay, Joe, Christy, Nicole, JohnK, Russell, Will
