An idea was born

To say that Theo Jansens strandbeests are unbelievable is to short sight them. The beests are magically are born from a mother of art and a father of engineering. We started talking about the idea of building a strandbeest but it didn't take long before Clay suggested we look at building a strandbeest bike after seeing Blaine Elliotts build online. While still related, the bike would offer opportunities for easier storage, more dynamic interaction between man and machine and be a fun tool to bring around to maker related events. We dove in and studied the wonderfully done build blog put up by Blaine Elliott and his team. A thread on our Dallas Makerspace chat site and quickly gained momentum and our first meeting took place mid-April where we debated metal vs. wood construction, looked at Theo Jansens beests, exercised our eagle eye on the photos from the website, created a leg out of popsicle sticks to understand the magic numbers, and generally just ate and talked about the potential of this build. Spirits were high and blood sugar levels were higher.
